Russian Foreign Minister: confrontation with Russia is the only reason for NATO’s existence

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Russian “labor daily” that confrontation with Russia has now become the only reason for NATO’s existence, which has contributed to the instability in Europe and artificially delimited the boundaries on the European continent. Lavrov said that everyone knows that there is no real security threat in Europe, but NATO needs to “create threats to maintain the necessity of its own existence”. Confronting Russia on all fronts and fabricating the so-called “Russian threat theory” has become NATO’s “important lesson”. Lavrov stressed that Russia has repeatedly proposed measures to ease the tension, but “in fact, there is no room for real and open dialogue between Russia and NATO on urgent issues.”.
