Ministry of Foreign Affairs: urge the US side to immediately withdraw its arms sales plan to Taiwan

In response to the recent approval of arms sales to Taiwan by the US House of affairs in Beijing on December 8, foreign ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said on December 8 that China urges the US side to immediately withdraw its arms sales plan to Taiwan, so as not to cause further damage to Sino US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. At the regular meeting on the same day, Hua Chunying said that China’s position on the issue of US arms sales to Taiwan is consistent and clear. The US arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one China principle and the provisions of the three Sino US joint communiques, especially the “August 17” communiques, grossly interfere in China’s internal affairs, seriously damage China’s sovereignty and security interests, send the wrong signal to the “separatist forces” and seriously damage Sino US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. China firmly opposes this. Hua Chunying said that China urges the US side to abide by the one China principle and the provisions of the three Sino US joint communiques, stop arms sales to Taiwan and military ties between the US and Taiwan, and immediately withdraw the arms sales plan to Taiwan, so as to avoid further damage to Sino US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. China will continue to make proper and necessary responses in accordance with the development of the situation.
