On December 21, Geng Shuang, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, spoke at the Security Council’s open video conference on the Middle East issue, calling on Palestine and Israel to resume equal dialogue as soon as possible. < p > < p > Geng Shuang said that Palestine and Israel are neighbors that cannot be moved away, and the two sides should adhere to the strategic choice of peace talks and restart equal dialogue as soon as possible. China welcomes the initiative of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to hold an international peace conference early next year, and appreciates the resumption of civil and security cooperation between Palestine and Israel and the resumption of the transfer of tax collection. The international community should uphold an objective and just position and make sincere efforts to promote the Middle East peace process. Any solution to the Palestinian issue must listen to the voices of regional countries, especially the Palestinian side, take into account the concerns of all parties, and avoid imposing it on others.
Geng Shuang said that under the current situation, the international community should attach great importance to COVID-19’s impact on the Palestinian economy and humanitarian situation. China appreciates the unremitting efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees in the near east to improve the humanitarian situation in Palestine. Since the beginning of this year, China has provided Pakistan with a number of epidemic prevention materials, sent a team of anti epidemic medical experts, and donated money to the agency. Not long ago, all the anti epidemic materials provided by the Chinese government to the agency’s medical institutions and the “health package” provided by the agency to the Palestine refugees in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria arrived and delivered. China is willing to continue to work with the international community to make unremitting efforts for the early realization of a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question.
